In addition, the chapter briefly looks at the ideology, characteristics and components of modern Salafism. This introduction to modern Salafism serves as a starting point before we begin with the discussion on the Salafi concept of WB. The second part of the chapter introduces the concept of WB.

The current world we are living in sees the urgent need to secure peace and uphold justice for all individuals regardless of faith and language. All these factors and others impose a need for a clear and broader understanding of Islamic law concerning Muslim and non-Muslim relationship and, in particular, the concept of WB. As mentioned earlier, it could be argued that WB as portrayed in modern Salafism is at odds with the Islamic values of maintaining peace, respecting humanity and developing a tolerant and harmonious society.
